Virgin Atlantic names plane after Sir Richard Branson

Updated: May 2

As Virgin Atlantic celebrates its 40th anniversary, the airline plans to honour its founder, Sir Richard Branson, by christening its latest cutting-edge aircraft in his name.

Named Ruby Rebel and registered as G-VSRB, this aircraft pays homage to Sir Richard while commemorating four decades of Virgin Atlantic's innovative impact on the travel industry.

Scheduled to commence service from May, Ruby Rebel, the airline's fifth Airbus A330neo, will introduce a fresh flying emblem inspired by Sir Richard's pioneering spirit and Virgin Atlantic's ethos of nonconformity.

The emblem, influenced by Holly Branson's features, incorporates elements from Sir Richard's illustrious career and iconic ventures. From Virgin Records pin badges to a Tubular Bells charm bracelet, a Virgin Galactic rocket adorning the belt buckle, and a Virgin Voyages anchor on the boot, the design encapsulates the essence of Sir Richard's ventures.

Ruby Rebel symbolises Virgin Atlantic's commitment to breaking the mold, echoing the airline's inaugural flight in June 1984 when the maiden aircraft, Maiden Voyager, embarked on its journey from London to New York, painting the skies with a bold splash of red.
