Amidst a magnificent celebration at the Port of Barcelona, the renowned actress and performer, Hannah Waddingham, graced the occasion as the official godmother of the Sun Princess, the latest marvel from Princess Cruises. In a dazzling naming ceremony held aboard the ship in the newly inaugurated Princess Arena, Waddingham, accompanied by Captain Craig Street, exuberantly bestowed upon the vessel its name: Sun Princess. With heartfelt words, she invoked blessings upon the ship and all who traverse the seas aboard her.

As tradition dictates, Waddingham then ceremoniously shattered a bottle of Champagne against the ship's hull, heralding good fortune for the voyages ahead, destined to explore captivating destinations across the globe.

Renowned for her beloved portrayal of Rebecca Welton in "Ted Lasso," Waddingham expressed profound gratitude at being appointed as the godmother of the Sun Princess, a moment she describes as surreal. In joining the ranks of esteemed women, including members of the Royal Family, who have previously bestowed their blessings upon Princess ships, such as Diana, Princess of Wales (Royal Princess, 1984) and Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales (Royal Princess, 2013), Waddingham finds herself among illustrious company. The lineage of godmothers also includes iconic figures like Audrey Hepburn (Star Princess, 1989), Sophia Loren (Crown Princess, 1990), and Martha Stewart (Crown Princess, 2006), alongside numerous other notable celebrities and dignitaries, thus enhancing the significance of her role in maritime tradition.
