Eurotunnel plays down delays fears

Eurotunnel's leader has downplayed concerns over potential car queues at its terminals once a new EU travel system is implemented in October.

Under the new regulations, Britons traveling to and from the continent will be required to register their fingerprints and a photo at the border, sparking fears of delays.

However, Yann Leriche, CEO of Eurotunnel operator Getlink, has reassured that while Le Shuttle journeys may take an additional five-to-seven minutes, the deployment of extra lanes and advanced technology will ensure a smooth process.

At departure points such as the Port of Dover, Eurostar’s St Pancras terminus in London, and the Channel Tunnel in Folkestone, French border police will conduct passport checks as individuals exit the UK. This long-awaited EU Entry/Exit system (EES) will replace manual passport stamping.

Citizens from non-EU countries, including the UK, will be required to register their biometric information as part of these new procedures.
