€5 to enter Venice

Venice, Italy, has initiated a trial phase for a new entry fee system aimed at managing tourist influx into the city.

Dubbed the Venice Access Fee, visitors will now be required to pay five euros on designated dates until July to gain entry. To facilitate payment, tourists must complete the transaction online and obtain a QR code, which they will present to officials at various checkpoints. At the city's primary train station, a dedicated entrance for tourists has been established, with officials donning yellow vests conducting checks to ensure compliance with the fee requirements.

Failure to pay the fee may result in fines ranging from 50 to 300 euros. However, for the time being, payment can also be made in person.

Certain exemptions apply to the fee. Residents, employees, and students are exempt, as are individuals under 14 years old and those residing within the city's jurisdiction, including mainland districts.
